However just the other day Apple quitely (just as they did with consumer sales last year) stopped offering the White Macbook in favor of the new Sandy Bridge powered Macbook Air Aluminum unibody laptops.
You can go check out and order the new Macbook Air bulk education bundles right now href="http://education.apple.com/customlab/" target="_blank">on Apple.com. Apple lists both the 11.6″ and 13.3″ Macbook Air in various configurations in bundle packs of five at various price points (cheapest bundle is ,645.00 and includes the five 11.6″ Air’s with a 1.6 GHz Core i5, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB SSD).
On the product order page you can also add software packages or iPad 2′s to your custom order. Apple describes this custom order page as their way of offering schools the ability to create their own custom Apple MacBook Learning Lab that suits their needs and budgets.
Changing their line-up
class="adsense adsense-midtext" style="text-align:center;margin: 12px;">Apple is known for having a very simplified line-up of products and in the past year they’ve trimmed their laptop options down to only two. You can either get a full-powered title="Apple Macbook Pro" href="http://laptop-computer-planet.com/blog/tag/apple-macbook-pro/" target="_blank">Macbook Pro laptop which starts at 99 or your can get the ultra-thin and ultra-portable Macbook Air which starts at 9. Apple offers no laptops below the 9 price point that is brand new and no a refurbished or out of production machine.
Offering only two paths for their laptop computer business severely limits Apple’s ability to compete with companies like Dell, HP and Lenovo in the laptop market if that was Apple’s aim. Apple’s Mac platform has seen steady growth in recent years, but the market presence for the Mac operating system is still minuscule in comparison to the very diverse world of Windows PCs. But since Apple doesn’t really rely on their Mac sales to keep their lights on their happy with simply trimming the fat and creating a more profitable small PC business.
In just about every quarter since the iPhone was released Apple’s figures have shown the companies bread and butter is their iOS platform, not Mac, and it’s not even close in the most recent quarter (Q1 2012) if you look at the pie chart below. –keep in mind that for the first quarter of 2012 Apple reported record revenues of .33 billion with .06 billion of it all being pure profit for them.
