Custom gaming PC vendor ORIGIN PC has a new ultra-powerful laptop computer for the enthusiasts with high demands and deep pockets. The 17.3-inch (1080p) href="http://originpc.com/eon17-x-gaming-laptop-features.asp" target="_blank">ORIGIN EON17-X has taken over the title of most expensive and powerful laptop that the ORIGIN PC company offers consumers. The EON17-X is priced above 00 right out of the gate and when you add in things like a Hex-core Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition desktop processor and dual high-end GPUs to your custom order the sub-total jumps to ,510.00.

A notebook designed to truly replace a desktop

When you think of the ideal desktop replacement what do you envision? I see a larger notebook that offers high-performance components, user upgradeability and user serviceability. Basically I see a notebook much like the new EON17-X from ORIGIN PC, the EON17-X has all of those features and with its battery installed the notebook weights just 12.1 pounds.

Some high-performance components that you’ll be able to have configured with the EON17-X include a 3.3 GHz Hex-core Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M 3GB GPUs in SLI for the best dual GPU performance, up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM and up to three storage drives that can be a mix of fast SSDs and large capacity HDDs. ORIGIN lists everything you can possibly add to your EON17-X href="http://originpc.com/eon17-x-gaming-laptop-specs.asp" target="_blank">here.

The chassis for the EON17-X is designed to be easily accessed by owners who want to upgrade or even repair components that are located inside the computer. With a screwdriver and some know-how you can tinker with a EON17-X just like you do with a custom desktop in many ways.

The backlit keyboard is here

ORIGIN PC has offered laptops for a little while now and the only thing they’ve never really offered is a backlit keyboard option. With the EON17-X that all changes as Kevin Wasielewski ORIGIN PC CEO and co-founder says, “ORIGIN is thrilled to answer our customers’ requests by adding a customizable backlit keyboard to the EON17-X.” However don’t worry the EON17-X still comes with a full-size keyboard and separate numberpad like all the previous 17-inch ORIGIN notebooks have offered.

Availability

The base price for the EON17-X notebook is a whopping ,239 USD, but with a few adjustments that price shots up to well past ,000 USD (especially when you start to tweak your notebooks GPU and/or CPU). As I mentioned a few different times the EON17-X isn’t for most people, it’s designed to cater to the hopes and dreams of enthusiasts.

Right now ORIGIN PC is committed to shipping their first EON17-X notebooks in early March. The ORIGIN PC website lists ship dates for orders as March 3, 2012 as of today (February 15, 2012).
