style="text-align: left;">Earlier today the folks at Samsung href="http://sammyhub.com/2011/12/12/samsung-unveils-series-5-ultrabook-in-south-korea/" target="_blank">officially announced some new Samsung Series 5 notebooks, no there not href="http://www.google.com/chromebook/" target="_blank">Google Chromebooks they’re Windows 7 based Ultrabook computers. A title="Ultrabook" href="http://laptop-computer-planet.com/blog/tag/samsung-ultrabook/" target="_blank">Ultrabook as we’ve mentioned before is basically a stylish ultra-portable computer with Intel processing chips and normally an SSD as well. Well the new Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks are set to be available in South Korea, at least, later this month with two major size options that include 13.3- and 14.0-inches.

id="attachment_9233" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 560px"> href="http://laptop-computer-planet.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Samsung-Series-5-Ultrabook-front.jpg"> class="size-full wp-image-9233 " title="Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook front" src="http://laptop-computer-planet.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Samsung-Series-5-Ultrabook-front.jpg" alt="Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook front" width="550" height="387" /> class="wp-caption-text">Image: Samsung Tomorrow

The new Samsung Series 5 13.3-inch and 14.0-inch Ultrabooks feature Aluminum bodies, 2nd generation Intel Core i5 dual-core processors, SSD’s with ExpressCache technology for fast boot times (as fast as 7 seconds from a cold start) and fast resume from Sleep mode (as fast as 2 seconds), up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and the Windows 7 operating system. Individually the notebooks feature slightly different things, though.

The 13.3-inch model comes with a 500GB HDD + 16GB SSD, integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, USB / Ethernet / VGA / HDMI ports, Wi-Fi support, a webcam, 1.4kg weight, and 14.9mm thickness. The 14-inch model comes with 1TB HDD + 16GB SSD, an optical disc drive, discrete AMD Radeon HD 7550M graphics, USB/Ethernet/VGA/HDMI ports, Wi-Fi, webcam, 1.8kg weight, and 20.9mm thickness.

However the display resolution for both the 13.3-inch and 14-inch Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks is the same 1366-by-768 pixels, the most popular resolution in the notebook industry. Just like the href="http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP900X3A-A03US" target="_blank">Samsung Series 9 ultra-portable notebooks there doesn’t seem to be an option for a higher resolution display for the new Series 5 class of Ultrabooks, which is a slight disappointment.

However the display on both the 13.3-inch and 14-inch Series 5 Ultrabooks feature a special anti-reflective coating, a unique feature among Ultrabooks. The benefits of having a laptop with a anti-reflective coating can include increased visibility under direct sunlight and reduced  fingerprint visibility (if you touch the screen often, that is).
